Dear neighbor,
I recently received a report from the non-partisan Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation analyzing casino revenues under the Governor's plan. I hope you will take a moment to peruse its contents as this is a proposal that will impact the entire state, particularly southeastern Massachusetts. While the final details of the proposal have not been ironed out, at this point, I am inclined to approach the subject with caution. While it is clear that the state is in a difficult fiscal position, I am wary of the unintended long-term consequences that could arise from the establishment of casinos in Massachusetts.
I am keeping an open mind to further study of casino gambling and support an independent review that would include an analysis of the potential negative impacts that casino gambling might have on the vulnerable, crime, public health and our state lottery that provides some $900 million in state aid to cities and towns.
I also want to hear from you and welcome your thoughts, comments and concerns.
Warmest regards,
